The very popular paved Banff Legacy Trail cycle route starts just a short ride from our shop at the Travel Alberta Visitor Information Centre. The trail heads down to the Banff National Park gates, and travels parallel to the TransCanada Highway all the way to the Banff townsite.
For the more energetic, a short ride through Banff and the trail can be joined again at Vermillion Lakes Road; then cycled through to the start of the Bow Valley Parkway (Highway 1A) and all the way to Lake Louise.
There are also gravel trails around the Bow River in Canmore which are perfect for cycling, and a paved/gravel cycle route out to the Three Sisters Mountain Village.
The Canmore Nordic Centre also offers some of the best mountain biking in the Canadian Rockies. With over 100kms of trails there are wide dirt roads for leisurely family rides, narrower cross-country ski trails for more of a challenge, and advanced rider single track trails.
